Hi
I had these two fledge yesterday one of them has the normal green tinge to the feathers but the other one is completely grey with no green tinge at all.
The parents are a blue cock & possible split blue hen, both chicks have blue nodules so I assumed they are both normal/split blues, but it's interesting the two chicks have such a differnt juvenile colour.
Juvenile Blue Gouldian.

Yes the father is blue and the mother a possible split blue, I thought baby blues had white nodules but this one has blue nodules which made me think it was not going to be blue but the juvenile colouring does make it look like a young blue.TheFinchMan101 wrote:That looks like a blue baby, you did say the father was a blue didn't you so thats probably it
Just wondering if anybody has bred blues that had blue nodules as chicks ?

Hi Simba,
Nice Blue !
The white nodules are the little ones at the very back of the mouth, not the two larger ones at the front.

Can you help me identifie the baby in the next picture, the parents are a normal split blue cock and normal possible split blue hen.
They had 3 of these but one died hatching and the other the next day, but this one is doing really well it has all white nodules and very pink skin.
I'll post another picture soon of it with it's nest mates so you can see the colour differnce.
I am aware the two breeders I got the parents from both also bred euro yellows, australian yellows and australian blues so I wondered it it could be Australian Yellow or Australian Blue but they never mentioned the parents being split for any type of yellow.

I've a feeling that the chick you pictured is an Australian White Gouldian which is a combination of the blue and australian yellow mutations. If it is, it will turn out almost completely white when adult.

hens couldn't be split to yellow... and the first chick in question is definitely a blue baby... nice healthy bird...

The Australian Yellow is resesive so cocks & hens can be split for Australian Yellow, Where as you are correct hens cannot be split for euro yellow (sex linked)
