Quail droppings

Lovely topic, I know! our quails usually have nice rounded droppings, not too large, and not overly smelly. however in recent weeks they have been doing very large elongated ones, almosts the size of a small dog I guess. Is this normal, or is it a sign that something isn't right? Thank you for any suggestions. :)

Not sure which it is, haven't caught them in the act, the female had been laying and is now sitting.

itb could be the female then if she has been laying she also could be a bit dehydrated so make sure plenty of fresh water for her

You answered your own question. She sits tight and only comes off when the pressure gets to much. (So to speak)

agree with buzzard. watch any of your nesting henbirds and you'll see that when they leave the nest for a break they normally do a very large dropping.

all of my hens start doing MASSIVE stools about 3cm long and oval shaped when they have commenced laying eggs. I dont know why...

It's as Buzz has said Jayburd. Because the hen is sitting most of the day, she stores her droppings in her cloaca until she comes off the nest. Then when she goes....she really goes!! :D
