Very handsome little bird and they dont cause any trouble in a mixed aviary but they do like some space and not too much competition around feed stations.Not sure why but the youngsters are possibly the most hopeless of all that i`ve encontered so far. Perhaps gomer isnt having the same problem due to aviary size ? Scalped heads and damaged wings seem to be the norm for me and another well known breeder conveyed the same problem.If you get too see the courtship display, its not hard to work out that they are very different.

beautiful and lovely birds never aggressive but can be a bit of a party pooper if you know what I mean - always sitting there looking sulky, never doing anything happy or exciting...
thank god we don't need licenses in ACT

Did you breed any Jayburd ? I`d be looking sulky too if i had to go a long way south of the tropics for winter . They love hot weather and possibly the most tolerant species ive kept as far the heat goes. Fresh water in the bath bowl twice a day when its 40 deg plus and they are far from party poopers.There is also a fair degree of colour variation but its all very subtle with Pictorellas.If they had the gaudy colours and mutations of a gouldian,im sure they would be more appealing.
