Hi folks,
I would like to purchase a canary that is a good singer for my mixed finch collection which is kept in an outdoor aviary. I have done research on the best singers and i have found that German rollers seem to be the best singers out of all the canary's. Although they do come at a price. So just after some suggestions from your own experiences. And how much should i be paying for one such birds.
Thanks AB
I want a Canary that's a good singer! suggestions?

Myself I would try and find a Canary breeder and tell them you want a good singer , a good breeder will know which of their birds will be singing .
Of course that doesn't mean you will get it home and it sings right away either , mine took months to get his Canary mojo happening but once he started he sang his little heart out till he died of old age.

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

German rollers are great singers, you'll be paying anything from 30-60 bucks, have heard them along time a go was impressed, but brought some whislters from a guy from Bacchus marsh, they certainly out sing him and when1 starts so do the rest and I can't even hear my German roller. Best advice when you go to purchase stay for a while and listen then pick the one you like.

The theory is that the type of canary decides which is the best singer. Theory isn't always the same as fact. The largest number of good singers may well be rollers, but the best may not. Just find someone who is willing to sell you a male canary who you have heard sing and sing well, and you may get a better singer at a cheaper price. As Deb said it is normal for them to stop singing when they move home, but to resume the next breeding season.
