There still seems to be some fear over Goulds raising their own young, giving the babies to societies to raise. Especially overseas.
I trusted my yellow backs to raise a couple of red faced parroties that I wanted to keep the bloodline in as I sold their father and didn't realize he was on eggs at the time.
I put the eggs under my goulds before I put them under societies :)
Aaand I have pics! They fledged today.

That's a very pretty male you have there, I've always tried to get a orange head yellow but never ended up getting any. What great parents they are :thumbup:

Mackstaa,

Did you replace the gould eggs with the parrots or did you have a mixed bag? The reason I ask is that althought the mouth markings (I suspect) are similar in the goulds and parrots I wonder if the suptle differences might be noticed by the rearing pair and therefore cause some of the chicks being negletced? Anyhow great stuff, just shows that thinking outside the square can have great results. Do you think that imprinting might be a problem? Anyhow well done. :clap:

Mouth markings really aren't a serious issue if you have good parents & loud sueaky begging from young which these would be. Very similar mouth & begging call between juvenile Parrotfinch & Gouldian anyway. Great photos.

Yeah I had a mixed bag but the parroties hatched 2 days earlier, that was enough for them to wipe out any yellow gould progeny.
My yellows had 2 clutches of infertile and murphys law popped his head up and this time gould eggs hached but they couldnt survive against the raptors.
Yellows already stuffing material back in the box today :crazy:
