My bird keeping started with breeding budgies in 1969 and I then converted to breeding native Australian finches in 1972, over the years I have lived and bred birds in the UK, USA, Asia and Europe. I have bred Bantams, Pheasants, Peacock, Guinea fowl, Quails, a lot of the smaller parrot species but… since moving to Brisbane, Queensland. I have focused on breeding finches from the genus Lonchura (Mannikins/Munias/Nuns). I also breed native Australian Bush Budgies (in their wild green form). I am keen to learn from the members of this site and if possible share some of my knowledge and skills with others new to finch breeding. All these years of bird keeping and I am still learning every day.
I would like to form a group of interested finch breeders to specialize in disappearing
Lonchura species and/or their subspecies (Javan Munias, Tri-coloured Munias, Chestnut Munias [Black-headed Nuns], White-headed Munias [White-headed Nuns], Scaly-breasted Munias [Nutmeg/Spice finch] Java Sparrow

and any other race of
Lonchura that may still be existing within Australia to leave something for those finch breeders that follow in years to come. Just like you and I wish others had done for us.
