My finches won't eat their egg or fruit and veg. i put out apple carrot peas and corn and even grated them and tried the boiled egg they won't eat it!!I even sprinkled a little seed on top so they get the hint it's food!!! :D
they won't even get into the winter grass and wild oats i give them.I have been offering each day but only for it to go to waste.
Any hints how to get them to eat their healthy foods??? mind you they loved bok choy ,should i just stick to that for now?
Also they have beach sand and crushed egg shell and shells available at all times.

Oh i forgot to add/ask may be a silly question!!!
Some people mention here that they give sprouted seeds how do you do that without the seed going rancid??
I do remember my mum growing alfalfa from seed she used to soak it in water few days and then drain the water off and wash/rinse and drain it each day and store it in cool dark place until the sprouts were ready.I presume sprouting bird seed be the same method but would appreciate others experienced veiws.
Thanks all

What finches you got mel. My goulds and stars would touch the veg and live food for ages then once I put my cordons in there they kinda showed them what it was all about now my goulds are the first to the live food bowl everyday. Guess they just take time and depending on the what type of finch.

There is a video of Mike Fidler showing how to sprout seed on this site.

Stick with the bok choy and just keep trying them out on new stuff.
Some would put a canary in the aviary to teach the finches to eat and some would make up a bird bread as soft food .

Sadly you cant force feed the stubborn buggers .

Perhaps try pegging up some winter grass & wild oats in a small bunch with a bok choy leaf near a favourite perch for starters. New foods often require some persistence & experimentation. If they are not taking to any of the many items you're trying, just go with one or 2 new ones at a time & try different ways of presenting them.

Sure do! Have several packets of maderia cake mixes sitting in the pantry at the moment along with a few cakes in the freezer.
I put ground up baked eggshells in the sprouted seed and baked roughly crushed in the grit containers. Leb cucumbers used too will be growing my own this year.
The peanut butter has me intrigued how and why did you use that? Im guessing the protein and the oil content for the why.
