Today I went to the pet shop and got two pairs of white rumped double barred finches and one pair of hecks longtailed finches. They all look really healthy and fit.

Thanks Nathan

The only pet shop in town here wont sell licensed birds ..you are very lucky to have access to them .
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

Hi nathan
Can i ask why you get your birds from birds shops, and do you have many breeders in your area.
Are the prices better from a bird shop or breeder??????????????

Brett, its not always about the money, you maybe happy and have some local breeders that you have sourced however when starting out or even having bred for a while its not always that easy to get birds from breeders, a number dont like to advertise what they have. I personally have found if you have a good relationship with a shop, they source from the local breeders what you want and thus get the quality bird. Yes you may pay a few dollars extra but I am happy to do that for the convenience. I find it easy to swap related birds with birds within the shop so i have new bloodlines. However I am also happy to purchase from forum members but it is not always possible due to logistics or if the birds are available. I really think it its not always about price, it comes down to a matter of convenience and feeling comfortable. I also like supporting my bird shop to keep his doors open as it gives the opportunities for new people to easily locate someone if they wish to get involved with birds.
