never seen this kind of worm ever, or maybe its just me, but what baffled me most was the head on it. heres some pics:

WEEEEEIRD!
I saw a bright blue worm once in the Aussie alps - but nothing ever like this before.

Its a giant gippsland earth worm buy the looks of it grows between 2 to 3 metres long and only skinny like that.Not sure how far north they are found.

its kinda like a slug, it leaves a trail behind it, and is really hard bodied as well.

just looked at some pics of the giant gippsland earthworm on google images, doesn't have the same head as the one i got here???

It is a type of Flatworm, some of which are carnivorous on earthworms.

I've never seen anything like it, so Googled "hammerhead worm" and found this pic

on this link http://kenzomtb.blogspot.com/2009/10/nematode.html which implies it's an earthworm eating exotic parasite that needs to be squished!

Its not a Gippland one. We get similar slimy black ones with a pale brown stripe like that without the hammer-shaped head. At a glance they look like an elongated leach but they're very soft & usually only found out in the open in the morning or where its moist & shady. Don't know what family they belong to but they seem a bit more like a type of slug to me rather than a worm.

Defiantly looks like that parasite with the flat head.Very interesting indeed.
