Hi Everyone,

I recently have been caught up in the finch craze, I have a 2 x 1 metre Aviary with the following pairs:

- Stars
- Gouldians
- Ruddys
- Red Cheeked Cordons
- Zebras
- King Quails

My Zebras are sitting on 3 young atm and my Quails have randomly laid 3 eggs with no nest and are not sitting on them is this strange or they lay all eggs then sit?

Thanks

Welcome, once the Quail has finished laying, she will gather them all up into a nest & start sitting.

Does it matter that they are just out in the open? is she likely to lay more than 3?

As she has layed 2 in consecutive days then a day off then another egg and it has been 2 days with no more eggs.

Hi and welcome to the forum nick, as for quails they are usually bad when it comes to nests, they normally lay then gather their eggs, as for not laying for a couple of days they should not lay any more.

Thanx Danny, When i arrived home from work i had found that they have been busy building a nest and have moved the eggs altogether. She isnt sitting on them as yet generally how long before this happens and then
how long until the eggs hatch?

Eggs usually hatch out after about 18 days but can take as long as 22 days from what I have had happen.
