i bought a couple of pairs of this so called mutation - as usual sight unseen. both pairs are now nesting. genetic wise they are suppose to be a combo of fawn and the cinnamon variety. they look a bit better than the photo - but not much

only young birds but some photos i have seen of this mutation are

Thanks for the pics, nice birds. Looks like they still have plenty of colour to develop.

bought them off pet link .he said i got them cheap for $120 a pair. i paid him upfront next day he changed his mind and withdrew his ad. told me no-more were for sale and said he was sorry he sold them :( think i was the only sale.
one of the hens has her nest only 50cm off the floor. i thought pretty low for a star finch.
hows the grenadiers going. my males appears a bit bigger now and a bit rusty looking. probably looking forward to his five-some

Well done WB im not sure if there is even a going rate for these yet, I love this mutation and have been keeping my eye out. Hopefully breeding yellow + yellow doesnt degrade the genetic quality of the young, ill have dibs on your first young you decide to sell

The one in the photo doesn't seem near as yellow as the the ones I've seen. Don't let a couple of lesser quality specimens give you a bad rap on the combination as a whole. Yellow-bodied Red Stars (good ones) are the most stunningly attractive mutation finches I have ever bred or seen. So much so, they are the only mutation of anything which I intentionally keep & breed. My Stars often nest in grasses very low to the ground - about 70% of my Star nests would be knee-height or lower & they have a choice of sites up to 2.4m high.

Tiaris does $120 sound too cheap . . and could you post a pic of yours as WB's pics seem way different colour from others I have seen

Hate to be suspicious, but their are 'shonks' and there are 'newbies' who sell (in good faith) birds that are not what they think they are

GEE . . I hope I'm wrong

I get $200pr for 2 YBs or $100pr for YB hen & fawn split cin cock. I know another bloke who gets $300pr. I strongly suspect the one in the above photo is just cinnamon not yellow-bodied (cinnamon & fawn). I don't know how to post a photo, sorry ??
