I was reading an old article by David Pace, in Australian Bird keeper, in which he wrote "The Avicultural Society of South Australia launched the Sustainable Aviculture Network (SAN) program at the end of 2009. The idea is to give aviculturists the ability to contact other aviculturists who keep the same species while retaining their privacy. The premise is that the birds are pure and so it ensures one possible means in which a breeder can obtain new blood or founding stock. For more information email Matt Russel"
I think this is a fantastic Idea and I have often heard clubs say they want to set up this kind of contact but... This is the first time I have actually heard of it happening. If the SAN is not running any longer, perhaps this site (Aussie Finch Forum) could set up something similar.
Does the Sustainable Aviculture Network (SAN) still exist?

I am interested in purchasing any of the more unusual Lonchura species and/or their subspecies. Particularly the Asian Munias or New Guinea Mannikins. If you have some and wish to sell them, PM me with the type, quantity and price
I will buy related or unrelated birds. I am also happy to organise and pay freight from anywhere in Australia.

Sounds like it could work if there is no others already doing it. Are you interested or anyone else to explore it further and bring forward more info on how it could or does work ? For further discussion. We have spoken about similar before but did not take of. Now with our expanding membership that could be different.

It would still be good to do it here. So everyone is catered for. Maybe the info could be supplied to the Mods. and they could put people in touch? And find out how the SAN does theirs?

Got a reply for the SAN team. Will be sending a reply back, can I say we have a few people interested on the forum?
hi Diane
my name is Matthew Russell, my self and Tim nelson are the founders of the san program. we tried over 3 years to get the program going in many formats but all appeared not to work due to lack of interest in being involved and the admin of the program. if you want more info let me know and we will be happy to answer any questions.
regards Matthew Russell
