Not to scale

I bought these of another breeder, not sure how scientific the exact measurements are. There is a little shelf below the hole the full width of the upper L section and about3mm deep. there are 3 holes (about 5mm in diameter) on front and rear at shelf level for airflow.

I had 3 pairs in the flight, 4 boxes that shape and 4 boxes Mike Fidler's shape and all birds chose the L shaped boxes.

I paid $6 each for mine, figured I couldn't make them for that (although they are a bit rough and ready they did the job).

Yes, I know, taking a picture might have been easier after all. Check your phone  .

Hey AFF, what's with stripping out the extra blank lines from my 2D drawing. Oh well, worth a try. Now I really do need to take a photo and draw all over it.

Misso the ones i use, i went to a Cabinet makers joint where i did some work for a while and got them to cut mine up on the computer saw and they have kept the cutting list for future. They worked out to be $13 but taking into account they spent some time on measuring it right and puting it on the computer so maybe my next lot mayb a fraction cheaper. Mine are made from 18mm ply to keep them cosy and with 4 young or so can get very warm and cosy for the young. So i dont understand why people need to use heaters under them.

I've used these boxes for Gouldians for a couple of seasons in the past & the birds certainly like them but I found they resulted in over keen 1st season males building over the top of existing clutches of eggs & hatchlings. I had a handful of cases of this with them for the couple of seasons I used them. This didn't occur at all with traditional standard rectangular nestboxes before or since. I also previously experienced this same thing many years ago when I used home-made bamboo nest receptacles for Gouldians. These also had a much larger than usual nesting chamber area, so I'm firmly of the opinion lately that a smallish chamber prevents this as there's simply not the space for an extra nest chamber in the same box. FYI
