Today i checked the society nest,i knew that one baby had died in the nest but the other one was fine, today it was gone no sign of it at all.I checked all of the cabinet but no baby,it was about 6 days old.Any help please??????????
I have also lost 2 Zebra babies..

Yes if you see dead one then remove it. A baby disappearing from a cabinet is unusual. Maybe you change the cabinet fronts to 6mm mesh. It sounds like something is getting in there and eating the babies.

Did you notice any mouse poop in or around the cabinets ?
Might be a cunning little mouse sneaking in and out with your babies .
So as DB suggested you could use smaller wire and at the same time some mouse traps /sticky paper
or some other means of catching the horrible little bugger.
Good luck mate and welcome to the bittersweet time of the year that is breeding season.

Have not seen any mouse dropping around,i dont think a mouse could get to the babies because the nesting boxes are high in the cabinet no way a mouse could get them climbing up smooth walls.
With my zebs i now know they have abandoned the nest they are not sitting on the nest any more, maybe there is a mouse around.
I do have a few mouse stations around the cabinets..
Thanks for replys

Ooooh, don't use sticky paper! Horrible things! As much as I hate mice, I feel sorry for the littles buggers when they practically break their limbs trying to get away from the thing

Hey Harve, don't be too dissapointed. If they are young birds it may take a nest or two to get it. Otherwise, some birds don't like nest inspections, even Zebs and Society's. Maybe try watching from a distance, I know its hard but will set you in good stead for some of the harder breeds further down the track.

KInda over this mouse thing ...see what they do to your baby birds then tell me not to use sticky paper.
Do you realise that they pi$$ on everything in your house and when that dries we inhale the particles , this is how diseases are spread .
Im an animal lover but for crying out loud I dont want my grand kids exposed to mice droppings or pee and I dont want my birds tormented or killed by them either
If sticky paper is the only thing that will work then that's what Ill use . Believe me its a last resort .
Not having a go at anyone on here but the subject has been THROWN at me 2 days running and Ive had a gutful of it .

I've seen 3 mice in my aviary but I'm afraid to put in a mouse trap in case the finches get caught in it. Are these sticky ones ok to use? Please help as the little b....s are laughing at me I'm sure!!

Tas Ed with out getting in to debate on sticky mouse traps, touchy issue. you can still use normal old style mouse traps ste them in an icecream container with some small hole big enough to let mice in but not birds in the side of the container, set the traps put the lid on and place a tile or rock for some weight to hold lid down and to keep birds out .
or there are bait stations you can buy where the mouse can go in and have a chew on the bait and the birds cant get into it, so you have plenty of options... pete
