I have just put some nesting boxes in my aviaries for painteds and long tails. Do I need to put some nesting material in the boxes or will they do it all themselves if they are interested? My birds are all in still young but I thought I would put some boxes and see what happens.
Thanks

I usually don't fill mine, as the birds fill them themselves and they nest a little deeper if you don't put stuff in first. Occasionally eggs or chicks roll out of the front if they nest too high in the box.
I just try to keep a variety of nesting materials available at all times.
Surprisingly often, they nest behind/beside/on top of the box anyway.....

Let them do it them selves , it keeps them busy .
