Wondering how desperate some of you have been to get the bird you want, and what stupid price have you paid to get it ? My price is building towards the $200 mark for a hen lol

That's a cheap hen blue cap, how old is the Hen?
Also be sure your being sold a hen blue cap and not a RCCB hen.

Yeah I have seen them lately for that price, however spare cock
Birds were also being sold at the sales for 50 each.

At that price I think I would buy a pair, wait till they had young then sell on the young and the spare cock.
Ive found its near impossible to get a single sex of anything.
Ive got 3 emblema cocks waiting for mates, I would rather hold on to them than let them go for the $4 I would get if I sold them. So Im waiting for the other pairs I have to give me some hens I can pair then up with.

Bluecap hens have always commanded a premium. Even when I've had a surplus of hens I've only ever passed them on as a favour to close friends. Generally, they are very rarely sold alone. Any regular bluecap breeder knows that it is silly to do so - female mortality far surpasses male mortality due to the simple fact that they are far more prone to eggbinding than any other finch. The amount of people chasing hen bluecaps just after winter is phenomenal. Buying a pair is the only sure way to pick up a hen & then only allow them to breed in the warmer months or you run a high chance of being in exactly the same situation next spring. Good luck.
