Hi everyone,

I'm here seeking a contact with some reputable breeders around the Bathurst, Orange area. I’m also some travelling to Canberra & southern Sydney in the next few months so those areas would be OK too.

I love finches but I rarely see the types I like in the local petshops, and to be honest I prefer to get them straight off the breeder so the whole experience is less stressful to the birds.

For the last 5 years we’ve had a large outdoor bachelor pad with one each of a Cordon Blue, Painted, Cuban, Orange Breasted. They were all bought in pairs but the females must have been older as they died after a couple of years. But the boys were all very happy & healthy living together the last few years.
They all slept together side by side at night like a little fluffy rainbow. Anyhow age caught up with them and now there is just a painted male left and he sleeps in-between the Chinese quail hens at night now. We really miss the little fellas and their lovely singing.

I don’t intend to become a breeder and am thinking of setting up another bachelor group for their colour and song. Would breeders mind selling just males?
Thanks for your time!

 Hi, welcome to the forum.

I don't think breeders would have a problem selling you just cock birds I know I wouldn't.

Thanks for the welcome!

They would have pretty good lives here - i have a elderly mother who loves to sit next to the aviary and feed them treats like milk thistle, mealworms and biscuit.
It gets cold here in winter (snow) so i'd like to get some that would be acclimatized to an outdoor aviary. Though I do wrap their aviary in a clear plastic during winter to keep the chill out.

The cordon blue had a lovely song -are there other types that sound just as nice?

Also what types would be too aggressive for a bachelor pad?

If there are no females and no competition most should get on with each other - shouldn't they? ?
Or maybe we just lucked out with a chilled out bunch in the first place

I cant see a problem with that ..I have a spinster aviary for a couple of older girls to live our their days .

Try ringing Mr Bob Duffy on 6851 4642 Central West Bird Club . If any one can help you Bob can . You might like to join while your at it but dont worry Bob wont push it , he is always happy to help out .

If you want to take a drive to Dubbo , try ringing Ian at Bobs Pets 6882 1642 and check on any spare boys he may have .

Hope this helps.

Emblemas could go nicely with your group, laid back birds, weird call (sounds a bit like "bdiong bdiong")
They are brown with red or yellow and have white spots......Ive just posted some links to other topics and pics here viewtopic.php?f=39&p=83426#p83426" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Even a gouldian would probably fit in well, extremely colourful, can be a bit of a couch potato at times. Some red heads can be a bit feisty, but you can get black heads and yellow heads. Soft chirruping call but a cute funny mating dance. Shaking the head and bouncing up and down on the branch.

EDIT....sorry just re read your post and now see that you already have emblema/painted, but I will leave the links in anyway :D

BB Painteds are Emblemas :)

Mortisha, you wont have a problem finding your boys....plus when the boys dont have their girls it seems to transform them into gentle housemates with each other.
I had 1 parrotfinch and orangebreast become best friends as they both didnt have girls at the time, it was hard to prise them apart.
Birds as mentioned or a male gouldian or 2, they have very nice little songs..Green singer also
