It was panic stations here this afternoon folks . The new aviary built in Winter just wasnt doing well in this heat and battle plans were underway for fear of losing my PC Lorikeets .

Of all the aviaries and all the birds they were the only ones fully gut sucking panting and looking rather seriously bad .

Anyhoo a 5 x 5 metre sail has been strung up and misters are under construction , hopefully they will be more comfortable from here on in .

So thats was my afternoon ...just sharing and hope every one elses birds are coping with the warmer weather .

According to the min max gauge in my birdroom it was 44.6C in there today!, I doubt if is was actually quite that hot but it would have been high 30's.

Luckily Gouldians are one of the birds that love the heat all of them have been bathing today and they all seem fine this evening.

Those that were stuck in the fugly stage are now suddenly in a full moult this week.

Jusdeb - Hope your birds are doing Ok.

The birds in the avairy where fine but the finches in the cabinets where doing it tough,Harvey gave them a spray with cool water they loved it.The Canaries would just sit on the perch as we sprayed them.

I think my water usage may have emptied the dam today ... Tried to stay away from the aviaries so the birds wouldnt startle so just hosed the floors and left sprinklers on very regularly .

This years youngins suffered most , too hot too soon .

Luckily, we haven't had any overly hot weather since filling our aviary...

Just waiting for it to get here now...

Hopefully we can get a bit of a shade sail happening over our aviary also :)

Deb, if your water dish is on the ground, put a couple of bricks in, a piece of wire between, & they'll soon find a nice cool spot underneath. In the summer I lift my water dishes in the suspendeds up high enough for the birds to fit under, & in they go.

We are heading for 35 today and 38 tomorrow. Got the 10 litre ice blocks set up for them, and more in the freezer ready to go for tomorrow
