Australian Fauna Precinct
Taronga Zoo, Sydney

Are you an experienced bird Keeper?

Do you have intensive small passerine management skills?

Do you have experience in incubation and hand-rearing in multi-taxa species?

Taronga Zoo is looking for a permanent Senior Keeper to work in our Australian Fauna Precinct with our native and exotic bird collection. The Australian Fauna Precinct manages 116 native and 19 exotic bird species on site at Taronga Zoo and also participates in conservation and recovery programs.

Successful candidates will demonstrate their ability to:

Work at a Senior Keeper level, based on experience working in the Zoo industry or private aviculture business
Provide a high level of quality avian husbandry
Teach and mentor junior staff
Engage proactively in project work, including exhibit design and maintenance
Assist in recovery programs, such as Taronga’s current Regent Honeyeater project

Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years bird industry experience, possess a detailed knowledge of a diverse range of species and will have supervisory experience at a Senior Keeper level. This position works ten days, including one weekend, per fortnight. If you have significant passerine knowledge and industry experience, you are highly encouraged to apply for this rare opportunity.

That's what I would have said once. But a shortage of "real" jobs in the 80s meant I switched to science teaching instead. Not sure, 7 careers later, that the move paid off workwise by I did meet woodstock at teachers' college :soppy: . 28 years married next week - when do I get parole? :innocent: :lol: .
