This is probably the most thought provoking and attitude changing piece of television that I have ever seen. Nothing to do with birds but some of you might enjoy it as much as I did. It can be applied to discrimination of any kind.

Watching it again, I remember seeing it many years ago and I believe there was an email doing the rounds demonstrating the same thing.

Well I still don't like mutants and I will eliminate such blood-lines from my stock. Oh wait a minute I sold everything yesterday. Getting back to the kids in the film; it is thought provoking even after 30 years.

Read about it many years ago. Would not have worked with my family. We all KNOW that blue eyed people are smarter.
But then we are very inclusive by upbringing, having a "United Nations" for a family.

Haven't followed the link yet, I assume you are referring to the experiment to teach children about prejudice and discrimination? (If my memory serves me right). Interesting bit of social psychology. Those guys (social psychologists) have done some seriously dodgy experiments (jokes aside, that is why Ethics committees where subequently brought in to screen research projects)! Just look up the Stanford Prison experiment, and the Milgram obedience study, ... Man, the best of human nature come out in both... NOT!

Money that would have been better spent on medical research ( real medical research ) . Who approves these "experiments" and why ?
I am brown eyed with a blue eyed brother and a green eyed daughter . Who gives a flying XXXX what colour eyes one has .
Humans suck at times .

Hi Deb. From memory, the brown/blue eyed one was a class activity to teach children how it feels to be discriminated against. the point wasn't eye colour per se. It could have been skin colour, ethnic group etc. One group was designated as superior to the other, and certain dynamics unfolded. I am sure the brown eyed group would have thought twice before discriminating against others in the years that followed...
As for the other ones, it is a way to trying to understand human nature. For one trying to understand some of the slaughters of WW2 and how the heck 12 million people could be killed and people just went along with it.
I do agree that some of the studies that are done are totally useless and money would be better spent in other ways.

Everyone is feeling non reactive. No one bit when I said I knew blue eyed people were smarter.
Sorry
Yes we all know that brains and hair/skin/eye colour are not connected. But as Flap said it was an experiment in understanding predjudice. Children and some adults can be conditioned to believe something is so or is right by repeatedly being told that it is so. Maybe if people repeatedly said that finch keeping was a sigh of intelegence?
