The Bad news: A pair of my ruddies had been busy on nest building and such for a few weeks now and not wanting to disturb them I left them to their own devices. Yesterday found a dead baby ruddie in the water tray at the opposite end of the aviary. Looked too young to have been out of the nest. Had a qucik look at the nest but did not see too far inside due to the feathers blocking the entrance hole.
The Good news: Today, discovered a fledgling ruddie out on the branches in the aviary being fed by a pair of doting parents.
Put some new cane nests (large tube type) in the avairy and soon had my second pair of ruddies checking it out. So fingers crossed!!!!

Drowning of young birds happens all too often I have lost a few this year BUT they need water. I try to keep in front by putting in large shallow dishes preferably made of fibre glass, so if they do end up in it they might have a chance of getting out. keeping in front of wrens, chats etc is hard because they tend to be secretive especially in a large overgrown aviary
