i honestly cant decide weather this hen is a red or yellow head. personally im more on the yellow side of things but would like your opinions.
ive also included pics of her mum who has a similar thing with her head like as if it has a yellow lining around the red.
so what does everyone think??
Red Head or Yellow Head??

It is a red-head but given the small amount of red & its broken expression if it was a normal red-head it would be one with black mottling all through the red area. Should be culled if you have any regard for the amount of red on the head of your hens (and their young).

Well mum and dad were both split black head, could that be the result of how the red with black mottling happens except in yellow back??Tiaris wrote:It is a red-head but given the small amount of red & its broken expression if it was a normal red-head it would be one with black mottling all through the red area.

Well I don't know how that's possible because their other daughter is a black head.

Black is sex-linked recessive to red so when the male carries the black gene you don't need any further genetic input from the mother to produce some black hen offspring. With sex-linked genes a split is only possible in males.
