Bought a container of it on the weekend from my local produce store.I was amazed at how little you need to change the colour of the water.Heard it is used for chooks to purify the water so i thought i would give it a go on the finches.Cheaper than buying other water additives.

Condys AKA Potassium Permangate is a salt . It was used to treat various fin , scale infections in tropical fish years ago .
My point ...might pay to get some more opinions before adding it to the drinking water , those little kidneys might have trouble with it . Just a suggestion
Old time breeder here swears by Raspberry cordial as a water additive , Ive seen his birds and he is doing something right .

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

I heard someone on the radio say they walked into a chemist and asked for "Condy's Crystals"...Answer " sorry we do not stock".
Later same Chemist and same girl was asked for Potassium Permanganate and was sold a bottle immediately.

An old timer once told me they used to boil their veggies in it during the second world war when stationed in India because of the water quality - or lack of it.
1 crystal in a bucket of water should turn the water pink and was the dose recommended to us for birds..........like all the "recent new-wave supposed wormers" it won't rid your birds of internal parasites just purifies the water to some extent supposedly.
As a warning a guy here many moons ago killed an entire colony of Beautiful firetails with Condy's crystals..........overdid the crystal count by all accounts - big time........no survivors!!
These days a water filter will possibly do the same job and IMHO I'd not bother with it.......but that's me!!!

I use to make a stock solution of about 1/4 teaspoon in a 1.25 ltr bottle. I would add a splash to a water bowl & fill up till the water was just tainted a pinkish colour. Used on everything from finches & canaries through to conures & cockies, Neophemas seemed to do well when using it.
