Since discovering these were in Australia I am like Harvey at Cessnock am interested in them as I realize they are what used to visit the lawn in the breakfast area of my hotel when working in Botswana. Hopefully these will become available somewhere.

The Queensland Finch Society has a program for breeding uncommon Finches Like Silverbills,Javan Munias,and maybe thought Rufous Back Mannikins.Could be an idea if cant get Aberdeens.

QFS is working with silverbills, Javan munias yellow siskins and rufous backs

I am a fan of the mannikins/nunias . I have Spice and Chestnuts already and my only concern would be the possibility of cross breeding if add other of same type but nonetheless is something to consider. I still would like to invest in something like the Aberdeen and even the Red Crested but have to convince 'her indoors' that it would be a great present for my next big day.

If you are running Chestnuts and Spice already(they will cross) you can scratch all the Munia types to be safe.
Red Crested are a very very interesting specie they will breed reasonably well but they are different and you do need to put thought
into their management.I wouldn't bother with Aberdeens unless you can aquire several pairs which today is nearly impossible or be lucky
enough to get into a group of similar ideas.
Your choice will be dictated by availability,costs,available aviary space,species you have now and if you are willing to go that extra metre
with management and extra dietry needs.
Not easy but the challenges are there.
