I cant believe how fast they are growing! They are just about hanging out of the nest at times. Thank goodness its a nest built in the middle of a large amount of straw, so they cant get too far.
They grow faster than the gouldian babies.

:?:
With gouldians its very easy to tell they are getting fed as their crop gets very distended and the seeds etc are visible through the skin. I am not seeing this with the canary chicks, is this normal? They are getting fed by both parents and are growing fast and now have their eyes open, Im just concerned about their "chicken necks"

All the babies are flying around no problem now, Reg. They are just trying to keep cool in the heatwave we are having at the moment.

That's great and your guys are having a heat wave? we are having a very cold winter over here its freezing. good thing we finished building our avairy room or I don't think we would have to many canaries since they can't resist the cold.

I have two hens and they are the ones that built the nests.
My females only make a sort of "whee" sound. The male bird should have a really loud trilling/warbling call. From my reading the males do stop singing for a few months. My male canary started his singing again three months ago and I now have 4 babies flying around the aviary and one hen is sitting on three eggs, the other on four.

Only male canarys do a full throat warbling song, and only for half the year because it is their mating call and territory chalenge. :D
The hens do a little trill.
My 2 lost their 2nd nest full so I removed the nest cause I think they were getting too hot.
Now mum is sitting on a new nest in a cooler spot, right behind the food hopper.
Fingers crossed for 3rd time lucky.
