Early fledging
With the excessive temperatures we are having at the moment I am finding quite a number of young fledging far too early. It is obviously the high temp.as they have plenty of daylight hours to be fed.It is not just large clutches but I can understand a full clutch over heating in a nest.
Because of the warm nights these chicks are surviving on the floor.
An example is a nest of 4 Blue Face P/Finches greeted me all huddled together on the floor last Thursday morning,no body or tail feathers, but wing feathers and pin feathers on their heads and thats all yet each night they huddle in a corner and seem quite comfortable. This evening(Monday) they actually look like young normally fledged chicks so they should be ok now.
Several nests of Painted, Cordons, St Helena's and Red Face have bailed out as well and I guess most will survive. In general though the season is behind last year but Feb/March should assist with good numbers. We live in hope!!!!!!!!

I am located near Albury NSW
There are quite a few young Saints flying around as I use their parents to rear Pintail Whydahs.
I also have a colony of Fawn Saints.
Let me know what you want and I will organise them when I eventually catch up.
It is too hot to even think about going into my aviaries let alone trying to catch anything.

Has anyone on this side of the country got St. Helena's breeding? Preferably fawn, but normal beats none. My lonely batchelor is a really nice active little bird, but is middle aged and needs a mate.
