Thanks Madhatter, done just that.
I've worked out a cunning plan:
It's very simple: 'A' is bred until enough have been bred to pay for "B", etc. etc.
for example: I breed painteds until I have bred & sold enough to buy cordons. I then breed cordons until I have enough money to buy blue caps!
seems feasible to me, and I think it'll work. Just have to be patient.

Not only do you get the cash to upgrade (for want of a better word) the collection - you also get good experience and no amount of $$$$$ can buy that
