Be Great if they made a come back as they are Beautiful bird in Real life.

I saw a breeder last year that has 4 pair, 3 of which he had lent out as a part of a breeding program, but they werent doing real well so he was looking at getting them back.

Hi Harvey,

If you Google "green avadavat" or "green strawberry finch" you should get a good idea of what they look like- not spectacular but a very nice bird when well feathered.

almost every Green avadavat I have come across either in person or in pictures in books, seems to have a bald nape - why is that??

Jay,
They have a reputation for plucking when overcrowded.

Hi Harvey, the late Tom Gibson from Weston near Cessnock had some of these birds, like the Peale's Parrot Finches, Grey Singers, Pintail Parrot Finches, Blue-capped Cordons, Red Siskins etc. Isn't anyone in or near Cessnock keeping the Peale's Parrot Finches? I believe Ray and Wendy Lowe are possibly keeping them but can't say for sure. The blue Royal Parrot Finches are also bred by some. I might have been one of the last with the Redpolls in NSW. The Grey Singers bred well while I had them, incredible, I had two hens laying eggs and sitting in one nest together.
I believe the Saffrons are just about gone as well!
