I've heard a number of people say the best way to establish the blue is through Euro yellow. Not sure about the silver birds though, kinda seem like what's the point to me (same with Aus yellow blues, why try to turn a Gouldian dirty white :urgh: ).

Even though the pastel is a nice looking bird I am one who does not really go for the mutations much in Gouldians. Though I do have yellow. Seems the natural colours are so good to begin with.

Natamambo that was exactly what I was saying about blue + euro yellow (plus blue as well)
So, Amca your effectively breeding a blue + Silver which of course is blue plus blue which in general is a no no to keep the mutation strong, In this case, it could be ok, maybe Ill try it if I ever get a surplus of blue birds.

Im not sure if anyone is raving about the beauty of the silver, but its such a challenge to breed recesive and sex linked genes to create a small % of offspring as something like winning the lottery. Especially a Black headed, White chested Silver cockbird. The amount of selective breeding and luck is huge to get this bird, especially a strong one that will survive :) Also we do tend to look for a higher goal to achieve in life as humans. Some people are just different in what they want to achieve in each way.

I dont see the point of someone posting 'I dont like mutations but...' If it is a thread about mutations, dont post on it, we wont criticise you on your threads either im sure, I think it spoils the conversation, it happens alot.

I dream the day I breed one of these above birds, my pairs I have now tell me its a 2% possibility in each clutch of 1 pair I have to do this, but I hope to better the chances in the coming seasons

Agree with what you said mackstaa about the colours etc. Someone the other year was going to put a Blue to a Silver. Not sure if they did or what the outcome was. Anyone else have any info or thoughts on these 2 colours? What about a Pastel to Blue? As you said everyone says no for Blue to Blue.

A Pastel is a SF Yellow & Blue bird so pairing it to Blue is the same as Blue to Blue, a better pairing would be to pair it to either a normal split blue or yellow spilt blue.

Hey, I wasn't questioning your right to rise to the genetic challenge. I have lots of yellow backs and want to specialise in them, have one that is split blue for that extra little bit of a challenge. You're welcome to the silver offspring once fledged though  .

Theoretically silver is easy just takes two generations. Yellow back cock split for blue paired with a blue 50% of hens on average will be silver. Silver cock slightly more of a challenge as it requires a pastel blue cock and a silver hen, which then gives you a blue on blue pairing and probably lots of heartache.

You can avoid the Blue to Blue to breed silvers in both cocks & hens by breeding yellow split blue with yellow split blue, you just get less silvers.
