Natural nesting materials are best. But interestingly enough most finches seem to like strips of white tissue. :whoa: So lots of grasses and clean feathers are the go. Good luck with your painteds. PS Painteds love small pieces of charcol from the wood fire. And look forward to hearing about the avairy as you build it.

Greetings venetta..

Today I decided the take the eggs out and when I looked inside the nest, there was a baby..didnt look like it was moving, but after a little while I thought I saw a little twich..so I decided to just leave it as it is and walk away. The dad is back in the nest now. The other three eggs are still there unhatched.. I'm just gonna leave it in there for a while and see how it goes..

Hope there isnt any special food I need to provide them when the chicks are out.

Im giving them some mealworms (which they never seem to eat..) and the finch seeds and some bok choy leaves (which they seem to love)

All finches with young like seeding grasses. If you have any growing in your backyard just take the heads off and give them to the birds. And leave the weeds to grow more seed heads. :silent: All finchos wind up with a seed/weed patch.

I have about 600m2 of land growing seeding grasses (technically its not mine..its the land next door to us where they havent stared building a house yet and its full of weed) But im sure the owners wont mind if I steal some weed from there.

Excellent. Just remember to pick from the back where the exhaust fumes will not have polluted it.
