Hi Gomer and everyone
In response to your query about the Hunter Valley Finch Club.......The Hunter Valley Finch Club is really a branch of the Finch Society of Australia...but its such a mouthfull its usually shortened to just the Hunter Valley Finch Club.....its independent but comes under the constitution of the parent body...there are a couple of other branches...Hawkesberry...and Wollongong as well as the one in Sydney.
We have monthly meetings with a guest speaker (mostly)..if not a speaker then a trivia night. Also someone does a "Bird of the Night" segment that goes for about 10 mins and is usually about that members experiences and how they keep their birds.
We have had several bus trips to other areas and we hold a bird sale in Oct...the last couple of years it has been held on the same weekend as an open day at Mike Fidler's research station in support of the Save the Gouldian Fund......having both on at the same time helps with organisation and gives people from a distance to make a trip worthwhile...Mikes set up is very impressive...but Im sure most people have heard of it or seen pics.
We also have a monthly journal with articles of interest and news....fees are $20 per year for a single....we usually get about 30 or so people along to meetings..including an Octenagerian of some note that is still keeping birds....Im still learning my way around the forum so if people are interested Ill put a couple of pics on sometime
cheers
