Hi everyone,

Out of curiosity, can we currently get the lutino blue face parrot finch in Australia? If so, are there any breeders out there?

Thanks

There was 2 pair for sale at the Adelaide sale last weekend.....Lutino with a split pairing
He must of sold a pair, because one disappeared

They are around but not many... I only know of one breeder that keeps them atm.

Out of curiosity, what was he asking for them? I've heard they command a pretty steep price tag atm.

Only $150 a pair, which I thought was very reasonable

Be aware that many of these birds have problems with their vision and are suitable only for cabinet breeding

Some breeders state that their birds are fine in aviaries

Buyer beware

They have more than their fair share of feather problems too.

Are the incidence of these issues high? I wouldn't mind having a crack at breeding them but I believe its not ethical to breed animals which have a high probability of deformity just for looks.

In that mutation yes they are very high. To minimise them requires very regular outcrossing to normal genotype Blue-faced Parrotfinches. In lutino to split pairings I'd only ever use splits bred from a normal parent. ie. splits bred from lutino to split parents have no genetic strengthening value at all IMO.

Very interesting,

thanks for all the replies. I have some normal Blue Face Parrot Finches. I really want to get into the Lutino ones. I put a WTB forum out there. Hopefully I'll get some soon.
