Last tuesday my hen started to lay. First egg was on the floor of the cage. That I noticed very soon after it was laid, as it was still warm. That egg I placed in there nest and both the hen & cock promptly went to see what I did. Then shortly after the same day the hen was siting in the nest & then vacated where there was another egg. Then the next day she laid another egg. Then began sitting on the nest. So I thought she was incubating the eggs. This morning thursday when I removed there cover. She came out of the nest. At first I wasnt concerned, but she stayed out & only went to have a look. I had a busy day so was away from home till the evening. When returning both my Zebs were carrying on with such a clatter & family members said they have been this way all day. Checking the nest there is now FOUR eggs. I know they can lay up to TEN eggs & the eggs don require sitting on for 7 days. But that one day she did sit would have started incubation ? This is there first attempt at having a family & there nest building attempts were poor until I found a canary nest that they took too immediately.
Really am tired writing this so hopefully it does make sense

I mentioned to a friend my Zeb's were laying he said his dad used to have them & they can sense the egg temperature with there beaks just standing over the nest. Is this true or fiction ?
